Chalk Teeth’s new single “Floor It” is a gothy, club-ready cut that oozes coolness and confidence— it shows much promise for their upcoming debut album.
Today, Los Angeles based-band Chalk Teeth have returned with another hypnotic and captivating single, “Floor It”, premiering exclusively on Occult Magazine. The track is the second cut released from their upcoming debut album expected to release this summer.
It doubles down on elements found in the recipe of their excellent previous single, “Struck”, but it excitingly, it bumps up the BPM to induce the high of a gothy rave. It's an entrancing and unique concoction that touches on elements of dark wave, synth punk, shoegaze, early electronic dance music and krautrock, all while leading with vocals in the Polish language. The song uses the ocean as a metaphor for surrendering to a large force, and “losing yourself dancing in a crowd, existing outside of time as a brief respite from a world on fire.”
On “Floor It”, Jason Miller’s reverberated 808 beats thump with a persistent pulse against Suicide-esque synths, droning guitars and a haunting vocal performance from singer Karolina Wallace. The seductive track gets a second wind halfway through the runtime that takes things to thrilling heights. Droning guitars evolve into melodic lines as synths wobble and build up into a whirling fuss that sounds like banshees wailing in the night. At their most impassioned moments, Karolina Wallace’s vocals start to feel like a gospel from beyond the grave. “Floor It” is equally as spooky as it is irresistible and infectious.
The abstract “Floor It” music video (premiering below) was shot by guitarist Adam Wallace with a guerilla-style DIY approach. The black and white clip was filmed around Hollywood, and it nails their aesthetic to T– it enhances the strong mood that oozes from the track.
Time to get properly excited for their debut LP this summer… go ahead and “Floor It” below.
